Introducation of Ivy Youth Academy:
Ivy Youth Academy (IYA) originated from the International Department of Shanxi Experimental Secondary School (SESS), the only provincial-level key high school under the direct management of the Shanxi Provincial Department of Education and the only secondary school in Shanxi authorized by the Ministry of Education to engage in Sino-foreign cooperative education.SESS was established in 1882, with its predecessor being Lingdetang Academy.
· 2002: SESS founded its International Department and launched the first Sino-Canadian curriculum experimental class.
· 2012: The International Department introduced its first Sino-American international program, exploring pathways to studying in the United States.
· 2015: Ms. Wu Peijuan, the founder of Ivy Youth Academy, officially joined SESS International Department and took charge. She developed a curriculum combining the advantages of Chinese and American high school education, enabling students to enhance their English proficiency while achieving the academic levels expected of high school students. Graduates were admitted to renowned universities worldwide, with 91% being accepted into U.S. universities ranked in the Top 50 by US News and 100% into the Top 100.
·2018: Due to policy changes, the SESS International Department ceased operations. Ms. Wu led the core team to establish Zuncheng Academy.
·2022: Ms. Wu and her team founded Ivy Youth Academy, combining quality international educational resources and the expertise of domestic education professionals from institutions such as China Education Online and the original teams of International Department ofThe High School Affiliated to Renmin University of China and SESS International Department.
IYA offers a comprehensive international education system with "Sino-American High School Curriculum + AP Curriculum" and “A-Level British High School Curriculum” as its framework. It provides more than 40 courses, serving families and students in Shanxi Province seeking high-quality international education.A t present, Ivy Youth Academy isan approved OxfordAQA centre, awarded accreditation by Cognia, and authorized by College Board as an AP school.
Ivy Youth Academy's Curriculum:
The Chinese government does not impose specific curriculum requirements on international schools. At Ivy Youth Academy, we have completely separated from the traditional domestic curriculum. Instead, we align our curriculum with international AP/A-Level systems, tailored to the students’ ultimate study-abroad destinations.
The school offers a four-year program spanning grades 9–12, with different courses designed for each grade. Students are required to fulfill graduation requirements by selecting from mandatory and elective courses and completing the necessary credits.
Mandatory courses include English, Writing, Algebra, Calculus, Physics, Chemistry, Biology , History, Geography,A-Level Mathematics, A-Level Further Mathematics, A-LevelPhysics , A-LevelEconomics , A-LevelChemistry , A-Level Biology, A-Level Accounting, AP Calculus, AP Statistics,AP Physics, AP Economics, and AP Chemistry.
Elective courses include Art Appreciation, Music, Drama, Yoga, and Physical Education.
From the perspective of mandatory courses, it basically covers the traditional reading, writing and math based courses. Our elective courses allow students to pursue their personal interests, choosing subjects like music and art to develop their talents further.
Since its inception, Ivy Youth Academy has been committed to enriching elective courses, providing students with more opportunities for learning and exploration. Updates to the curriculum are implemented periodically, ensuring alignment with international standards and the evolving needs of students.
